Aflac says it’s ‘comfortable’ with its capital position

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Aflac Inc. said Thursday that it’s “comfortable” with its capital position in the wake of a Morgan Stanley analyst note that warned investors about potential losses within the insurer’s investment portfolio. “We’re comfortable with our current capital position and are constantly monitoring our investment portfolio,” Laura Kane, a spokeswoman at Aflac, said. “We will be issuing our earnings release on February 2nd and specific details will be available then.” Aflac shares fell 30% to $25.31 during afternoon trading on Thursday.
